Our Making
At yamamayu, weaving begins with the cocoon itself.
We raise Tensan (wild cocoon) and domesticated silkworms, stretch their floss by hand into soft wadding, dye with plants and low-impact chemical dyes, and spin threads woven on wooden looms or early 20th-century Tsudakoma looms.
Farm to Fabric:
Every step is done with care — watching cocoons grow, turning them into threads, dyeing, weaving, and finishing. A textile here is not simply something to “buy,” but the embodiment of life and craft interwoven.
Materials & Dyes:
We use floss silk, pure silk, and occasionally wild silks such as Tensan or Attacus atlas. Dyes include indigo, plum etc. from the mountains, chemical dyes. Each cloth carries shades that shift with light and season.
Looms & Techniques:
Our workshop uses wooden handlooms, (Karami Ori) leno weaving devices, and Tsudakoma looms from the early Showa era. Each textile finds its own rhythm, combining hand-spun threads, transparency, and layered textures.
Care & Repair:
All dyes change gently with sunlight and touch — we see this as part of their beauty. Repairs and re-dyeing are offered so each textile can be cherished for many years.

Shipping We ship from Japan Post. Domestic: 2–5 days / Overseas: 1–3 weeks. Shipping fees are calculated at checkout.
Returns Due to the nature of handwoven textiles, we cannot accept returns for personal reasons. For damage or defects, please contact us within 7 days.
Care Hand wash separately with mild detergent, dry in the shade. No bleach or fluorescent agents. Plant-dyed color may change over time.
